(4 1/2 oz) butter
185g (6 1/2 oz) soft brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 large egg, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
215g (7 1/2 oz) plain flour (all purpose flour), sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
250g (9 1/2 oz) dark chocolate chips
Preheat
the oven
to 180C (350F, Gas Mark 4)

Line a
large baking
tray with baking paper.

Using an electric mixer cream the butter and sugar
in a large bowl. Gradually add the egg and vanilla extract
beat well.
3. Stir in the milk, Fold
the sifted flour and baking powder into the creamed butter, egg mixture.
4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
5. Drop level tablespoons of the mixture onto the baking tray
leaving space (about 4cm 1 1/2 inch) between them. Alternatly
roll tablespoons full into balls and then place on tray.
6. Lightly press the dough with the back of a floured fork or
your fingers.
7. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden. The cookies
will be
very soft so slide the baking paper and cookies onto a wire rack and
cool.
